Job Descriptions:

Duties:

• The Infection Preventionist is a member of the Infection Control team with special interest, knowledge and experience in epidemiology, microbiology and principles of infection control.
• She/he works according to the guidelines established by the Infection Control Committee and under the immediate supervision of the Director Infection Control for administrative purposes.
• The Infection Control Professional (ICP) participates in the education of hospital staff by utilizing standards and procedures specified by the Infection Control Program and principles of adult education.
• She/he collaborates with the Hospital Epidemiologist and other members of the Infection Control Surveillance Team in planning and implementing the daily operation of the program.
• In addition to carrying out the responsibilities of The ICP, she/he provides leadership, guidance and input in planning and implementing the hospital wide infection control program.

Skills:

• Participates in hospital wide orientation programs.
• Participates in Infection Control annual update in infection control as scheduled by the Human Resources Department or upon request of department heads/services.
• Prepares and maintains teaching aids and reference material for infection control.
• Conducts ad-hoc, informal educational sessions on patient care units according to identified needs.
• Reviews literature and standards of practice in infection control.
• Participates in interdisciplinary conferences.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

• Basic knowledge of infectious diseases and microbiology
• BA/BS nursing, microbiology, public health or allied field.
• Ability to employ problem solving techniques and critical thinking.
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to organize activities of multiple projects/problems
• Membership in the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.
• Certification by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $80.00 per hour
