The Prince William County, Department of Social Services is looking for a Human Services Caseworker for our Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations Evening Team. This position is part of a unique evening team that is responsible for the Protective Service responses from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mon-Thurs and 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. You will address emergency cases primarily for child protective services but occasionally for adult protective services and foster care.

ABOUT THIS ROLE
In this role, you will investigate allegations of abuse and neglect and assess clients who might be in imminent danger. You will develop safety plans, provide crisis intervention, make referrals to community resources, and monitor client's progress. You will document client contacts and prepare reports for case reviews and court hearings. You will work closely with police, county attorneys and other professionals to prepare cases and testify in court hearings. Your job requires skill and tact in order to work effectively with individuals, family members, and professionals on sensitive, controversial and confidential topics. You may be exposed to potentially dangerous situations, so you will be expected to implement required safety policies and practices.

• Experience in child protective services with a public agency during the past five years.
• Experience preparing court documents and/or reports,
• Experience assessing family needs and coordinating appropriate services,
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

• Typical schedule: Mon-Thurs 2-10pm with Friday being 8:30am -5:00 pm. Some work may need to be performed outside of regular schedule.
• All Human Services Caseworker must participate in an on-call rotation to respond to emergency situations that occur outside of business hours.
• You will primarily perform your work in the office and in the field (e.g. client homes, schools, police station, courthouse), but there may be some opportunity for telework (at supervisor’s discretion.)
