Human Resources Generalist (Morris Avenue - Green Bay) Job at Capital Credit Union
Position Purpose
Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of “Doing the Right Thing” by providing support to Capital employees with a focus on the employee experience. Supports a variety of HR functions including employee relations, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orienting employees to our benefit offerings while guiding them through enrollment and life event changes, preparing for events throughout the employment life cycle including new hires, transfers, and terminations, and maintaining employee records. This position also will back up other areas of HR as needed and work as part of the HR Team. This position serves as a resource and offers guidance to employees regarding employment policies and other areas related to employment. The Human Resources Generalist models expected behavior according to The Capital Way and Capital’s mission. Assists with other department projects and tasks as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serves as a resource for employee questions, providing excellent service in a timely manner.
- Ability to provide sound advice to employees of all levels in alignment with Capital’s Mission and the Capital Way regarding employment related matters.
- Makes offers of employment, processes background checks, and coordinates new employee training sessions.
- Meets with employees during new hire orientation. Completes the steps of the new hire process to meet reporting requirements and other necessary tasks.
- Perform necessary steps and documentation regarding employee promotions and transfers.
- Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation and completes the steps in the process of ending employment.
- Keep informed and updated on changing employment and Human Resources laws and regulations by periodically attending webinars, conferences, and other educational opportunities.
- Educates employees on benefits including insurance programs and retirement plan. Assists employees with benefit enrollment, benefit changes (life events), benefit termination, COBRA administration, answers employee benefit questions and assists with any issues related to benefits.
- Performs work of a highly confidential nature requiring initiative and judgment to make decisions in the absence of specific directions from supervisor.
- May assist with a wide variety of duties, including but not limited to, preparing timecards for processing, entering payroll changes, updating employee records in the HR/Payroll system, tracking employee performance appraisals, tracking benefit eligibility, coordinating job postings, and other related tasks.
- Assist HR Specialists by playing a support role in areas of recruiting, benefits, and employee relations as needed.
- As a member of a team there will be the need to back up team members from time to time with a variety of responsibilities and tasks.
- Assists with HR audits as needed.
- Assists with interviewing and recruiting as needed.
- Helps to coordinate employee events (Holiday Party, etc.)
Necessary Experience and Qualifications
- An Associate Degree preferred but not required in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources or related field.
- 1-2 years' experience in Human Resources or a role with similar responsibilities which may include administrative tasks and various aspects of employee relations.
- Must exhibit a friendly, professional, and inclusive demeanor.
- Must have the ability to be efficient and accurate while working on highly detailed tasks.
- Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and responsibilities.
- Must be able to efficiently operate a PC (including a good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and E-Mail), copy machine, and fax machine as normally acquired through related work experience.
- Experience in UKG preferred but not required.
- Must have interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and efficiently with a diverse group of employees in sometimes stressful situations, while maintaining a professional demeanor and atmosphere. Requires communication/listening skills necessary to instruct new and existing employees and deal diplomatically and effectively with difficult situations.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality.
- Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply policies, laws, and regulations when analyzing and recommending course of action in a variety of situations.
- Ability to stay in one place or work in a confined area for extended periods and to transport objects weighing between five and twenty pounds for one percent of work time.

- Office environment with moderate level of noise

- Prolonged sitting or standing
- Frequent mental and visual concentration
- May travel occasionally for meetings, seminars, or conferences.
