Human Resources Assistant Job at City of Virginia Beach
Job Duties:
The Staffing and Compensation Human Resources Assistant will assist the City of Virginia Beach's Staffing and Compensation Division team with facilitating the recruitment and retention of the City's workforce.
This position offers a hybrid/remote work option.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Provide assistance to applicants and city department staff on statuses, process, and resolution of issues.
- Coordinate onboarding of new employees to include tracking of background check results and completion of the I-9 Form.
- Process the verification of new hire education and upload into personnel file.
- Establish and maintain electronic filing systems records for personnel records
- Prepare correspondence and basic statistical reports in support of the needs of staff members.
- Explain routine personnel procedures and forms such as filling out applications.
- Develop and maintain simple automated data-base systems to facilitate recordkeeping and processing of personnel transactions.
- Assist with updates and posting of job descriptions
- Train city staff members on applicant tracking system.
- Answer applicant phone line and respond to HR Careers Mailbox emails.
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS:
High school or GED plus three (3) years experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities and associated with such positions as employment counselor, personnel aide, or administrative aide.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Post-secondary degree in human resources related field
3 years experience in HR or HR support functions
Experience facilitating human resource processes and transactions
Experience with applicant tracking program
Staffing, recruitment, and onboarding experience
Strong customer service skills desired.
