HR Specialist - Training & Engagement

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our HR team! This role assists the Chief Human Resources Officer in successfully guiding all phases of the employee lifecycle including attraction, recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention. The ideal candidate will understand how an employee's experience changes at different points in their career. You will work collaboratively with leaders across all departments to help them deliver an effective and consistent employee experience.

This role is responsible for implementing and tracking HR strategies and tactics to meet the Cooperative's business goals. The ideal candidate is a proven individual contributor who thrives in a high-performance team and is passionate about employees and culture.

East River Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative with a service area that covers 40,000 square miles. We deliver wholesale power to our members, which include 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally-owned electric system in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the properties of the member-owners in their service territories. This job opportunity is located at our main campus in Madison, South Dakota. Madison boasts a family-friendly, small town atmosphere with a wealth of modern amenities including the new Madison Regional Hospital, the high-tech campus of Dakota State University, a thriving community center and more. What you'll do:

  • Help administer the recruitment and hiring process to enhance the candidate experience.
  • Design and deliver effective onboarding processes for newly hired employees.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to identify training needs and build employee learning and development programs.
  • Track employee training and analyze outcomes to determine training effectiveness and organizational impact.
  • Provide assistance and resources to promote a successful performance coaching culture.
  • Assist in the development of employee surveys and feedback tools to assess organizational effectiveness.
  • Administer the performance management software system.
  • Provide assistance in answering benefits questions.
  • Coordinate employee service awards and recognition events.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate employee records in the HRIS.

Your education, skills and experience:

  • Degree in human resources, training and development, or a closely related field of study.
  • At least three years of experience in human resources is required.
  • Experience with developing and implementing employee onboarding processes, workforce training programs, or talent management initiatives is preferred.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification is a plus.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Must possess high level of professional integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with a variety of individuals.
  • High level of proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and computer systems.
