Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor Job at Sullivan County New Hampshire
This is a managerial level position that reports directly to the SCHC Administrator and is responsible for the direct supervision of the Housekeeping services in the nursing facility and Laundry services in the Unity complex. The position uses a combination of professional knowledge and experience to design and implement creative management solutions and provide cost effective quality services to the County.
Position Functions
- Supervise and monitor the departments Quality Assurance Program performing daily inspections, and the training and retraining of employees.
- Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, transfers, termination, and disciplinary actions in compliance with CBA and County policy. Provide employee performance appraisals and the subsequent interviews.
- Coordinate with H.R. new employee orientation to ensure that training goals are met including special instructions to comply with quality assurance and federal and state guidelines.
- Evaluate products and services to improve department’s quality and performance. Develops department’s budget and functions within established parameters. Maintain a manual of material safety data sheets for all products used in the department.
- Provide working schedule for housekeeping and laundry employees. Works with applicable departments to schedule routine and floor maintenance and waxing, and special projects such as wheelchair cleaning and annual window cleaning.
- Develop appropriate procedures for the housekeeping and laundry functions. Maintain all pertinent records including laundry weights, and resident room cleaning records.
- Maintain and demonstrate the highest degree of honesty, respect and consistency throughout all interactions
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of five years of experience in a similar environment with at least two years in a supervisory capacity
- Have a working knowledge of laundry operations, best practices, and methods as well as competency in effective communication and basic mathematical skills
- Be able to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions and effectively direct employees to accomplish directives and goals
- Display the highest degree of honesty, respect, and consistency throughout all interactions
Incumbent will supervise varying numbers of inmates and will be required to undergo special training.
Physical & Mental Requirements
The incumbent works in a moderately noisy environment similar to average institutional laundry where exposure to fumes and caustic chemicals are common. There is little risk of personal injury if care is taken. The incumbent walks, talks, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls up to 1/3 of the time and stands, uses hands, and reaches with both hands and arms more than 2/3 of the time. Occasionally weight is lifted, or force exerted over 30 lbs. And frequently weight is lifted, or force exerted of 10 lbs. There are normal vision requirements for this position. Equipment used include power machinery to include washers and dryers typically found in commercial laundries.
Job Environment
This work involves a variety of laundry responsibilities of a recurring and repetitive nature, usually involving several steps to be followed. Incumbent relies on advice and guidance of superiors at the onset of work and at times while work is in progress. Well defined or detailed instructions cover most of the important aspects of the work, but judgment is necessary to select the appropriate procedure or instruction to pursue.
Errors made could result in personal injury or delay or loss of services.
The incumbent may have infrequent contact with the public involving resident family members and vendors; most contacts are typically with other county personnel, department heads and vendors. Contacts occur in person, through use of the telephone and in writing.
Supervision
Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Administrator. The incumbent plans and carries out daily work with a degree of independence and in accordance with standard practices of the facility, county procedures, and previous training which must be observed. The incumbent has no access to confidential information.
The incumbent supervises 20 employees who are on different shifts and in the same location performing work of a specialized nature. Work changes are predictable, work process and volume are stable. The incumbent has responsibility to evaluate employees and enforce county policy and the CBA. Incumbent will supervise inmates as necessary.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,982.18 - $66,125.94 per year
