The Association of American Medical Colleges is seeking Hospital Policy and Regulatory Analyst for our Health Care Affairs group. In this role, the Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing various hospital-specific Medicare and other government regulations affecting AAMC member teaching hospitals. The Analyst will prepare summaries, assist in the drafting of comment letters, and present information to our constituents via webinars and in-person meetings.
How will you make an impact?
  • Regulatory team member working on hospital payment policies impacting AAMC-member teaching hospitals.
  • Research and analyze various hospital-related federal regulations – specifically Medicare inpatient and outpatient prospective payment system regulations – and work as part of a team to evaluate the impact of the policies on AAMC members.
  • Monitor hospital-related regulatory and legislative proposals and other areas as assigned. Be able to respond to routine questions from other AAMC staff and members. Know when to seek guidance from supervisor on more complex problems.
  • Support AAMC advocacy efforts on Medicare payment for graduate medical education.
  • Assist in preparation of regulatory summaries for internal use, make recommendations to senior staff regarding advocacy positions in assigned areas, assist in drafting and finalizing comment letters and presentations. Present complex regulatory information to constituents on webinars and at in-person meetings.
  • Attend external meetings, briefings and conferences (e.g., MedPAC, MACPAC) and provide timely summaries. Contribute to AAMC’s weekly publications. Monitor and maintain selected email listservs.
  • Respond to member inquiries, conduct literature reviews, assist in developing resource materials for member institutions, undertake special projects as assigned.
What you'll bring to the role
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of related work experience, or master’s or law degree with 1-3 years of related experience. Relevant work experience includes experience in health policy or hospital regulatory environment. Preferred fields of study include public health, public policy, health law, or similar field.
  • Critical thinker with a passion for health care regulatory and policy work, with an emphasis on hospital payment.
  • Proven track record to collaborate, take initiative, ask questions, develop new skills, and desire to broaden knowledge of health care policy. Ability to multi-task with an attention to detail in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze, summarize and explain complex Federal regulations related to hospital payment and present concepts in a clear, concise written and oral manner to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to support the development of policy through qualitative research, consensus building from AAMC constituents and collaboration with external stakeholders (e.g., government agencies, public/private entities, and peer associations).
  • Proficiency in Windows environment, with experience in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Remote Work Eligibility
This position is eligible for remote work within the Washington DC / Baltimore metro area only.
If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
