Days/Hrs: 7 hours/day, 180 school days, 9 Professional Development Days, 4 days New Educator Training, 14 days Position Specific
Start Date: Approximately August 8, 2022

Benefits: Position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, life, LTD and AD&D through the School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB) starting 9/1/21. Position is eligible for retirement through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems

Job Description - The School Counselor help students prepare for academic achievement, ensure career readiness and develop personal or social competencies through a comprehensive, preventive and developmental counseling program. The goal is to ensure that students will become productive and well-adjusted adults.

Qualifications:
  • MA in school counseling with valid ESA certificate
  • Two years of experience preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
  • Ability to relate well to administrators, teachers, parents, and students
  • Ability to convey humor and positive energy with team members, students and parents
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Preference in screening of applications will be given to bilingual candidates, especially Spanish

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and directives
  • Implement Comprehensive School Counseling Program as defined by the State of Washington and Woodland Public Schools
  • Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services
  • Comfortable with public speaking to facilitate parent/caregiver nights, staff professional development, student groups and activities
  • Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students
  • Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians and staff
  • Connect students, parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies
  • Understand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student, their parents/guardians, and staff
  • Implement individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate
  • Conduct career and educational planning activities
  • Participate in in-service activities promoted by the district
  • Submit required reports promptly and accurately
  • Schedule students in appropriate courses
  • Consult with students, parents and staff to assist students with academic/career planning
  • Meet individually with every student in assigned grade band to develop a career plan
  • Assist students with scholarship, college entrance, and financial aid applications
  • Schedule and coordinate AP, ACT, PSAT, SAT, ASVAB, etc.
  • Be the liaison for our Running Start program and help ensure proper student enrollment
  • Work with our community partners for our local scholarship program
  • Maintain counseleing website
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or District Administrator

The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
