Heavy Equipment Electrician Job at North Carolina Ports
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Perform duties to prevent electrical failures of any system in the Port facility through preventative maintenance. Correct all electrical failures in a timely manner through proper troubleshooting and repair procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
· Receive verbal directions from supervisor as to daily duties
· Prioritize daily preventative maintenance tasks to ensure routine maintenance for all electrical equipment in the Bulk Handling facility
· Check MCC’s insulation resistance, contacts and heat shields
· Perform equipment PM’s, including test limit and stop switches
· Check all moving equipment controls and power cables
· Check wiring for connections or wear and battery backup power
· Assist Mechanics with maintenance and PM’s requiring both trades
· Respond to operational; problems as directed and analyze and assess problems
· Determine parts and equipment needs and requisition through supply or Supervisor, depending on supply availability
· Back up operators for all equipment including bucket wheel re-claimer, drag re-claimer, Siwertell, ship-loader, conveyor systems, Pettibone crane, boom truck, front-end loaders, utility cranes & forklifts
· Maintain lighting to safety standards
· Unload barges that require hooking and unhooking of 50 pounds power cords and hoses
· Shovel fertilizer from under conveyors and transfer houses and move shoveled fertilizer in wheelbarrows
· Install up to 200hp conveyor motors
· Change out roller frames up to 200lbs
· Occasionally, may be required to provide leadership during Supervisor absence
· All other duties as assigned by management
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of electrical codes and safe working procedures for electricity is required
· Must have strong analytical and project management skills
· Must be extremely safety conscious
· Normal attention required to test, repair, replace, adjust electrical/electronic parts and components and to use trade meters and instruments
· Must be certified and maintain current on all safety training, First aid, CPR, Rescue teams, spills containment and response, i.e. hazmat, equipment or other job-related responsibilities
· Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment and power tools
· Must achieve and maintain a valid Marine Tanker Man Document License
· Possess a comprehensive and diverse knowledge regarding all aspects of Equipment Maintenance
· The ability and desire to learn and receive training is required
· Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, internet searching, email, and basic SAP
· Must practice basic leadership principles and skills such as coaching, time management, conflict resolution, communications and problem solving
· Will occasionally be required to wear a respirator
· Must have a valid driver’s license and meet TWIC security requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Required to work split shift and extensive overtime as needed. Available for emergency call in when necessary. Moderate physical effort required to climb ladders while carrying equipment to perform electrical/ electronic repairs, adjustments, and other tasks. Will routinely be required to work at heights of 80 feet, occasional requirements up to 200 feet, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil and seasonal adverse weather conditions. Must be able to effectively use all PPE equipment and lift, push, pull and hold up to 100lbs. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bending consistently, and working in awkward body positions is required.
