POSITION DESCRIPTION of Heavy Diesel Truck Mechanic – Ready Mix Experience

The position of Heavy Diesel Truck Mechanic will be instrumental in the repair and maintenance of Redi-Mix Trucks, Tractors and trailers. Knowledge of A/C systems, Allison Transmissions, Cummins, and Detroit engines a plus. This position requires management resources in adherence with all company standards, policies and procedures, as well as compliance with all federal and state regulations, including OSHA, TCEQ etc.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES of Heavy Diesel Truck Mechanic – Ready Mix Experience

• Will analyze malfunctions of all company equipment and perform repairs, rebuilds and maintenance of all equipment.
• Dismantle and reassembles equipment, using hoist and hand tools.
• Examines parts for damage and excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
• Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, hydraulic cylinders, etc.
• Welds broken parts and structural members.
• Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• Servicing equipment as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Minimum two years of related experience and/or a combination of both. Thorough knowledge of diesel, A/C, and other heavy vehicles and equipment. Able to use computer software in analyzing and troubleshooting engine and transmission fault codes. CDL is preferred but not required. Experience with preventative maintenance with trucks and trailers.

Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office products and some ability to adapt to other computer software.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to work weekends and overtime as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Consists of both truck shop setting, at plants and job sites. Shop environment will include suitable work areas and standard shop equipment. On site work consists of activities which include navigating heights, machinery and exposure to elements such as dust, changes in temperature and weather. Required safety equipment will be issued and policies and procedures focused on safety will apply.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing at times. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 75 pounds. Must be able to frequently climb stairs and ladders. May occasionally deal with heights. Must be able to safely maintain 3 points of contact when applicable. Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees, and managers. Practical conflict resolution abilities. Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Ability to read, write and do mathematics.
