The Head Start Cultural Navigator will assist Teachers and Classroom Assistants to carry out instructional activities; help maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning; and provide cultural and language interpreting for students and families. Will form partnerships with parents to develop mutual trusting relationships, act as an advocate for families, and provide services as needed. Will assist families in identifying their family goals, strengths, needs, and supports to meet those needs and goals. This position will be 32 hours per week (Monday through Thursday). It is based in Faribault, although the individual may occasionally need to report to another Head Start location (such as Northfield) or drive for training or meetings.

Qualification:

• High school diploma or GED
• Bilingual (spoken/written) in English/Somali is required
• Current, valid driver s license and reliable transportation with the ability to complete travel for home visits, meetings, trainings, etc.
• Able to work occasional evening hours for home visits and work-related events
• Able to lift and/or carry between 10-15 pounds frequently
• Able to reach above shoulder level, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, sit on floor or small chairs, climb, kneel, balance, push/pull, perform fine manipulation with hands and move quickly in the event of an emergency

Qualification for Ongoing Employment:

• Able to obtain Family Service Credential Certificate within 18 months of hire date (Agency will provide training during first year of employment)
• Able to obtain certification in infant/child CPR and First Aid within 3 months
