HCAP (Health Center Advocacy Program) Volunteer- Yakima- Job at Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho

Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho Yakima, WA

As a Health Center Advocacy volunteer, you will gain crucial experience in the nonprofit and advocacy fields and be a driving force in Planned Parenthood's effort to educate patients and health center visitors. You will work inside targeted health center lobbies and/or waiting rooms to educate patients and engage them in advocacy. Specifically, you share current talking points/issue updates and invite visitors to sign the latest petition. You'll ask if they'd be willing to share their story and also offer a voter registration opportunity.
The Health Center Advocacy Program seeks to establish a support base that accurately reflects the diversity of the varying groups of people who utilize our services and to provide these supporters with a range of ways to get involved in our work. Often, this is the first point of entry for a patient to become a supporter and volunteer. By engaging patients in advocacy we can educate and encourage them to be civically engaged in their community and protect access to health care.

Qualifications:

Commitment to quality health care.

A desire to educate and mobilize individuals around health issues through community engagement.

Well-organized, self-motivated and able to work independently.

Comfortable speaking to strangers on behalf of Planned Parenthood.

Comfortable working with people of varying backgrounds.

Excellent customer service skills.

Strict adherence to our patient privacy policy and all applicable state and federal laws.

Bi-lingual volunteers are especially encouraged to apply.

We ask that applicants commit to a minimum of 10 weeks and at least 2 to 4 hours per week. Shifts will be regular, yet flexible, during health center hours.
Volunteers must complete the volunteer application and criminal history disclosure form, complete an interview, and successfully pass a background check and reference checks before starting. There is a mandatory 1 hour orientation for new volunteers.
