Job Description:

The General Maintenance Specialist at the University of Oklahoma Biological Station (UOBS) at Lake Texoma (120 miles from Norman, in Kingston/Madill area). The UOBS campus has 10 buildings and several other structures, and accommodates approximately 175 students, researchers, and conference attendees. The General Maintenance Specialist will maintain the facility for safety, protection of property, and service to students and other users of the station. Responsibilities include: clean, painting, repairs and improvements to housing rooms, cafeteria and kitchen, classrooms and research facilities, mow and maintain the 20 acres of maintained lawn. The General Maintenance Specialist also coordinates with vendors: professional plumbers, electricians, heat & air contractors, and other professionals.

Job Requirements:

Skills:

  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing·
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • Ability to update written records, including computerized records

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Advertised Physical Requirements:

Physical:Climbing ladders, working at heights. Shoveling snow from doorways and sidewalks. Lifting and carrying loads up to 100 lbs. Prolonged standing and walking. Working with insulation such as fiberglass. Climbing stairs, including carrying while climbing. Excessive stooping and bending. Manual dexterity.Environmental:Painting and exposure to chemicals associated with paint. Exposure to odors. Exposure to disagreeable tasks or conditions. Working in very tight areas/cramped enclosures. Exposure to hazardous chemicals. Work may involve night, weekend, shift or overtime work. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.

Special Instructions: If you are selected as a final candidate for this position, you will be subject to The University of Oklahoma Norman Campus Tuberculosis Testing policy.
