General Summary
The International House is responsible for promoting international education and cross-cultural understanding on a wide scale throughout the Illinois State University campus and constantly seeks new and innovative ways to engage American and international students in a global dialogue.
The International House Graduate Assistant position offers knowledge and practical experience in international education, training, and development in the fields of education, project management, monitoring and evaluation, human resource management, financial management, managerial accounting and budgeting, statistical analysis, and management and evaluation of social programs. Professional skills acquired while performing the duties and responsibilities of the position include leadership, teamwork, time management, logistical coordination, social media marketing, and event planning.
Duties and Responsibilities of the I-House GA:
1. Assist I-House Associate Director and Program Coordinator in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services offered to international students through the Office of International Engagement, as well as international guests and participants in specialized short-term programs. This will include night and weekend programs;
2. Assist with transporting students to events and locations, both on and off campus, utilizing university approved vehicles;
3. Assist with planning and presentation of International Student Orientation, I-House workshops, International Seminar Series, International Education Week, and other OIE functions;
4. Assist with the management and operation of the International House Lounge, including the hiring and supervision of International Orientation Team members;
5. Assist with monitoring and moderating OIE social media networks, including developing and posting marketing materials for I-House programs;
6. Participate in OIE staff functions, including regular staff meetings, trainings, office events, and supporting office functions;
7. Perform general office work activities (not to exceed 49% of total work);
8. Other duties as assigned depending on candidate's abilities, expertise, and I-House needs.
Additional Information
This is a 4-month Graduate Assistantship, with a contract period of January 9, 2023 through May 5, 2023. This appointment is subject to the availability of funds. As a GA, you will be expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar and all expectations as set forth in the offer letter. Appointment renewal is subject to a satisfactory performance review and the availability of funding.
Required Qualifications
1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook, which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. Must be a degree-seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in one of the following fields: Accounting, Anthropology Applied Community and Economic Development, Art, Business, Business Education, Communication, Computer Science, Creative Technologies, Economics, Educational Administration and Foundations, English, Family and Consumer Sciences, History, Information Systems, Languages/Literatures/Cultures, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Teaching and Learning, Technology, or Theater.
3. Must have a valid US driver’s license.
4. Must complete or have the ability to complete van training within two weeks of hire.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session.
