Job Description

The Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is committed to prevention and suppression of fires aboard ships under construction, and production facilities within our complex. The EMS Team is responsible for the entire Bath Facility. The individual will be expected to make routine tours/inspections on U.S. Navy vessels, units under construction, all BIW manufacturing buildings and office spaces. The successful candidate will be capable of working in an energetic Industrial Firefighting Environment and following a standard firefighting command structure.

Shifts are 12 hours on, and 12 hours off, with a 4 day on, and 4 day off rotation.

A “Secret” clearance is required to complete the probationary period successfully. The background and “clearance” process is conducted by the BIW Industrial Security Department. Planned and unplanned overtime may be required as necessities arise. Resume and cover letter are recommended.
Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current and active member in a volunteer or career department required
  • A valid Maine EMS license is required.
  • Knowledge of structural fire response operations, emergency medical care, and firefighting equipment inspections is also required.
  • Interior firefighting experience is required in order to enter the hiring process and initiate training.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Previous interior Firefighting & Fire service experience required
  • A Maine or Pro-Board Firefighter Certification 1 & 2 are REQUIRED
  • An Active and Valid State of Maine EMT-B license is REQUIRED
  • Confined Space Rescue preferred
  • Technical Rope Rescue preferred

Unique/Additional Requirements:

Minimal medical requirements for Firefighter/EMT candidates as delineated in Chapter 6 medical evaluation of candidates – National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupation Medical Program for Fire Departments.
