Position Summary:

The Facilities and Safety Coordinator is a full-time, professional staff member with the opportunity to live on-campus, responsible for operational functions of the residence life and university services departments related to the overall development of a positive residential learning-learning environment. The functions include, but are not limited to, management of residence hall maintenance program and the general safety components of the department.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate aspects of maintenance and housekeeping needs as they relate to the residence halls
  • Assist the Facilities Management Department in addressing and monitoring residence hall maintenance and/or housekeeping requests as necessary keeping detailed records of same
  • Respond to residence hall facility emergencies
  • Escort Facility Services Technicians in addressing maintenance issues in residential rooms as needed
  • Perform regular inspections of buildings (both outside and inside) looking for maintenance and safety concerns as well as quality inspections
  • Maintain up-to-date maintenance and housekeeping records and logs
  • Coordinate residence hall maintenance assessments and needs – reporting suggestions for improvements to the Assistant Director
  • Work with students, parents, and staff in rectifying residence hall maintenance concerns and issues
  • Assist SRAs, RAs, and Residence Managers with building and room inspections as requested or needed
  • Assist Residence Life Coordinators in managing and developing the residential areas
  • Assist with residence hall staff training and supervision
  • Work with Operations and Planning Department to coordinate plans for Move-In and Move-Out including recycling and donation efforts
  • Schedule and supervise summer student maintenance personnel
  • Maintain communication with vendors to make recommendations on various purchases to the Assistant Director
  • Maintain guest accommodations on campus and an Admissions Show Room for prospective students
  • Coordinate safety and security efforts in the Residence Halls – including, but not limited to, scheduling fire drills for residence halls
  • Working with the Department of Public Safety, develop and implement educational programs focused on safety and security topics
  • Coordinate monthly “night-walks” for all residential areas of campus looking for safety concerns
  • Communicate regularly with the Office of Public Safety and Facility Services Department
  • Assist in maintaining coverage for HUB/Switchboard/Residence Life during times that the University is closed (i.e. – inclement weather)
  • Be an active participant in the Campus and Residential Life Community
  • Attend weekly staff meeting as scheduled by the Assistant Director
  • Attend and/or schedule committee meetings as directed by the Assistant Director
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Experience working with building maintenance and housekeeping issues
  • Physical ability to traverse residence halls on-campus, majority are without elevators
  • Ability to work extended hours (nights and weekends) when needed
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree preferred
