Position: Esports Assistant Coach

Position Overview: The Esports Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Director in leading a successful Esports program at Manchester University. This will include assisting in all aspects of coaching, team management, eligibility, recruitment, retention, facilities, streaming, and scheduling. The Esports Assistant Coach is expected to attend practices and competitions in person and help students develop and have a positive experience. They are also expected to be an active member of the Student Life Division.

Essential job functions:

  • Assist the Director in:
    • Eligibility, including:
      • Ensure that all players have submitted their NACE Signing Letter and are eligible to compete under NACE guidelines.
      • Monitor student’s eligibility during the season.
        • Works with the Student Success Center to coordinate support for student-athletes.
      • Keep rosters up to date.
    • Recruiting, including:
      • Recruitment of students with a commitment to academic success.
      • Supervise and coordinate recruiting events with esports staff and admissions counselors.
      • Provide an annual recruitment plan to Esports Director.
      • Communicate online with prospective players through Discord or game-specific chat program.
    • Retention, including:
      • Work with the Esports Director to establish retention programs and retention rates for the Esports program.
      • Maintain exemplary retention rate.
      • Track retention rates within the Esports program and it’s various teams.
    • Coaching, Scheduling and Team Management, including:
      • Determine goals and objectives for teams within the philosophy of the institution.
      • Organize and conduct practice sessions.
      • Establish guidelines for and insist on proper conduct of students
      • Recommend students for awards.
      • Provides adequate feedback and evaluation to students as to potential, progress, and performance.
      • Responsible for driving University owned vehicles to away competitions.
    • Streaming
      • Lead and assist student assistants with match streaming/production, graphic designs and overlays.
      • Assign casters for each match.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must demonstrate a commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Willingness to enhance professional growth by attending clinics and workshops.
  • Ability to represent the Esports program in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
  • Ability to abide by the rules for the program by NACE, GLEC, and Manchester University standards at all times.
  • Ability to attend esports staff, awards, captain, and competition council meetings.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Coaching and/or playing experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of a minimum of 2 of our supported titles.
  • Base knowledge of all of our supported titles.
  • Passion for supporting students in the program, in the classroom, and in everyday life.
  • Must be willing to make daily in-person connections with players and staff.
  • Must possess advanced technological knowledge of all gaming equipment.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of social media and streaming.

Work schedule: This is a (12) month, full-time, exempt position. Travel is required and includes flexible work hours, especially in-season. M-F with weekends required.
