THE ROLE

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist owns environmental, health, and safety support for the site to ensure first and foremost that we are keeping our team members safe. Additionally, this leader will work closely with the business to drive implementation of programs to ensure all federal, state, and local health & safety regulatory and Company management system requirements are met. The successful candidate must be a proven leader, facilitator, and coach to bring focus, efficiency, and execution of our environmental, health, and safety programs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Evaluate and update safety programs, policies, procedures, and practices to reduce and/or eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards for our workforce and ensure all programs activities meet regulatory requirements
• Manages the tracking and reporting of EHS metrics and measures performance against Key Performance Indicators to drive strategic and tactical plans
• Review and interpret new and proposed EHS laws and regulations and provide guidance to management
• Demonstrates knowledge of processes, equipment, and work practices to recognize potential hazards and provide appropriate hazard mitigation and worker protection
• Develops, delivers, and assesses effectiveness of safety training, metrics/trends, meetings, communications, and workplace culture
• Collaborates with operational teams to complete job hazard analyses, PPE hazard assessments, ergonomic assessments, and implement appropriate policies and procedures to mitigate risks
• Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards
• Conducts safety observations and risk assessments of active work activities and provides employees with necessary coaching and motivation; develops site communications and programs to address deficiencies and advances site safety practices and culture
• Participates in internal and external ISO 9001-2015 audits
• Owns the near miss and incident investigation processes to determine root cause and the implementation of corrective safety measures which prevent future incidents
• Serves as technical resource for site safety issues, near miss identification, and reporting
• Conducts routine and follow-up environmental, health, safety, and hazard inspections
• Coordination of departmental and plant-wide safety meetings
• Assists with and maintains environmental reports and permanent operating records
• Ensures staff compliance with all safety-related standards and regulations
• Ensures staff compliance with all environmental requirements and regulations
• Performs administrative functions, such as preparing reports, completing personnel documents, providing statistical analyses, and responding to internal and external requests
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements such as environmental compliance regulations, safety regulations, and local permit requirements.
• Evaluates and assesses EHS risks (e.g., chemical, gas, electrical, and mechanical risks) associated with process and support equipment
• Work with site personnel to conduct Job Hazard Assessments and ensure PPE and other safety requirements are incorporated into process and procedures as necessary
• Conducts regulatory reviews, implements necessary changes, and communicates to affected personnel
• Develops and presents regulatory-required training
• Performs and supports work area audits and inspections
• Develops/approves work practice procedures and provide cost-effective risk reduction recommendations
