Job Posting Summary

Mercy College invites nominations and applications for the position of Director for the Office of Educational Assessment. The College seeks a collaborative, experienced, forward-thinking individual to join our dynamic Academic Affairs unit and help advance our institutional mission: to provide motivated students the opportunity to transform their lives through higher education. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, the Director is responsible for coordinating and leading educational assessment planning and processes across all academic schools, and with particular emphasis on the assessment of learning outcomes at the course, program and general education level. The Director of Educational Assessment holds a key leadership role within Academic Affairs, providing strategic guidance on issues relating to assessment, research, and evaluation for academic and administrative units, and continuous collaboration with other major units across the college to advance student learning and success.

As the College's educational assessment leader, the Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring college faculty and staff are provided with relevant information, training, data and resources to engage in meaningful assessment practices and strategies aimed at continuous improvement and innovation at the course, program and institutional level. The Director of Educational Assessment partners with School Deans, Program Directors, and Academic Unit Heads to develop effective assessment practices and plans, identify key metrics and benchmarks, and support regular program review and reaccreditation processes for accredited programs. In addition, the Director works closely with the Director of General Education and appropriate Faculty Senate committees to facilitate institutional planning and ongoing cross-collaborative discussions to ensure an integrative and mission-centric core curriculum is achieved. The position also plays an important role in contributing to the College’s reaccreditation activities and self-study process, as Mercy is a member of Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The committee will begin reviewing applications on an ongoing basis, beginning July 15, 2022.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess many, though not necessarily all, of the following: a demonstrated commitment to the mission and core values of Mercy College; a record of progressively advanced responsibilities and oversight of academic assessment in higher education; demonstrated responsibility for a broad range of assessment goals and activities; experience developing, implementing, and overseeing curricular and co-curricular assessment plans and programs in collaboration with academic and student affairs departments; experience leading high level conversations on the assessment of course and program learning outcomes, general education, program review and accreditation; experience implementing and managing assessment software systems such as Anthology; understanding of MSCHE and NYSED guidelines, processes, and requirements; and knowledge of accreditation and institutional effectiveness measures and methods.

The successful candidate will also have superior leadership, organizational, planning, and management skills, along with outstanding written and oral communication skills; professional and ethical standards of the highest caliber; sound judgment, maturity, and composure; commitment to providing superior service by example and through administrative practices; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with diverse groups and to engage stakeholders in decision-making; and commitment to promoting success of all students and to reducing barriers to success related to difference, in dimensions such as race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, and disability.

The Mercy College Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the College.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy College and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy College, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
