Position Summary
The Director of Food Services and Events manages the operations of all food services on campus, including campus cafes, event catering, vending machine contracts and the cafeteria. This position also oversees events management, working with the College and external groups to schedule and coordinate event services across campus. The Director supervises staff within the department, including managers, food service workers, and event coordinators. This position provides a wide array of offerings for a diverse college community and advances excellence in customer service to ensure smooth operations and promoting special events and services.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Position Salary Range: $87,469/year - $126,878/year
The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $97,295 based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Bellevue College (BC) Food Services serves the college main campus by offering a full service cafeteria, three coffee shops and a Pizza Cafe (Housing) that serve hot food, light snacks, pastries, espresso, tea and beverages.
Essential Functions
Events Management
Plan short- and long-term events and direct event coordinators in event planning, scheduling, and invoicing.
Communicate with other support services, such as Public Safety and Custodial, to ensure smooth event operations.
Use event scheduling system to maintain event record, communicate details, and process invoices.
Communicate with internal and external customers about event needs and services.
Complete event contracts with customers, vendors, and purchasing of services/supplies for events.
Food Service Management
Oversee operations and staffing of cafes, catering and the cafeteria.
Oversee the procurement of food service supplies and maintain inventory of supplies and materials.
Complete food services/catering/vending contracts with customers, vendors, and purchasing of services/supplies for events.
Plan or direct staff in the planning of menus. Provide menus with diverse offerings, dietary restriction options, and of good quality products.
Ensure compliance with local and state food safety and health regulations.
Direct and conduct safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs.
Supervision
Lead team in building positive customer relationships.
Apply independent judgment in supervising employees including recruiting, hiring, disciplining and retaining effective employees.
Provide training and safety programs.
Schedule staff, define work assignments/content, and establish work rules.
Conduct performance evaluations and coach employees.
Resolve personnel issues.
Budget/Finances/Billing
Plan and maintain budgets. Review revenues and expenditures.
Plan and maintain inventories.
Execute short- and long-term financial plans.
Plan and implement food operations pricing and costing including, but not limited to the cafeteria, cafes, and catering.
Operates the department in accordance with the approved budget, while providing the client with the maximum value for the dollars spent.
Creates and executes short- and long-term operational and financial plans to improve service quality and reach financial goals.
Oversee cash handling and point-of-sale systems.
Early Learning Center Kitchen
Work in collaboration with the Early Learning Center (ELC) to meet food service needs of the ELC and supervise food service workers.
Plan or direct staff in the planning of menus. Provide menus with diverse offerings, dietary restriction options, and of good quality products.
Procure supplies and budget for costs.
Ensure compliance with local and state food safety and health regulations.
Direct and conduct safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or certificate in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Event Management, Business Administration or other related area. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
At least three (3) years' experience in events management and/or culinary arts (or similar field).
At least three (3) years' experience supervising employees.
Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse colleagues and/or students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and Adobe.
Demonstrated ability to:
Prepare contracts, event documents, and invoicing while maintaining organized records.
Work independently and effectively collaborate and communicate with team members.
Work on several projects simultaneously and follow up on projects.
Analyze, develop and implement business process improvements.
Plan budgets and execute short- and long-term financial plans.
Demobstrated knowledge of:
Local and state health regulations.
Food values and nutrition.
Food handling, sanitation, and safety precautions.
Care and use of kitchen utensils and equipment.
Events management tracking systems, e.g., 25Live.
Point-of-sale systems.
AV systems.
Ivoicing software, e.g., FreshBooks.
Position Specific Requirements:
Must have King County Food Handler's permit within 14 days of hire.
Must have valid Washington driver's license to operate the college vehicles.
Must obtain a ServSafe Certification within 14 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
At least five (5) years' experience working in higher education.
At least five (5) years' experience training and coaching employees.
