SUMMARY:
The Director of Applications' role is to supervise and maintain the organization’s repository of software applications through best practices and the appropriate staffing and management of an application team. The Director of Applications is also responsible for planning and coordinating the processes required for the provision of user applications and systems necessary for business operations. This individual will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to guide and assist the user group on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Evaluates, installs, configures, and deploys new applications, systems software, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
  • Ensures that applications meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfills end-user requirements, and identifies and resolves system issues.
  • Collaborates with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
  • Analyzes documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
  • Ensures that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
  • Designs, develops, and installs application enhancements and upgrades.
  • Liaises with company’s software suppliers for contract negotiations and prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.
  • Manages and provides direction for the application team in support of business operations.
  • Coordinates feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and gives advice based on findings.
  • Contributes to pre-testing phase of development by evaluating proposals in order to identify potential problem areas, and make the appropriate recommendations.
  • Liaises with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
  • Compiles and maintains inventory of company software and system assets.
  • Reviews and analyzes existing applications’ effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
  • Develops and communicates training and documentation for analysts, holds clinic as necessary, and other user-related activities.
  • Develops, distributes, and coordinates in-depth end-user reviews for modified and new systems or applications.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Cultivates and disseminates knowledge of application-usage best practices.
  • Plans, directs, organizes and supervises assigned projects and subordinate personnel.
  • Trains and develops staff and ensures adherence to all standards.
  • Operates within appropriate budget constraints.
  • Develops cost, time estimates, and ROI.
  • Provides technical assistance to other departments.
  • Reports activity and status to CIO.
  • Interacts with and support user groups with presentations and consideration of their requests.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
  • Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs.
  • Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
  • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
  • Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
  • Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
  • Manages resources effectively.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
  • Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
* Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field
or Education equivalent experience:
  • Two (2) to four (4) years with systems implementation, support, or utilizing current information system technology.
OTHER INFORMATION:
