The Director of Infection Prevention or Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) will plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and provide leadership on the organizational Infection Prevention Plan & Program in accordance with all state and federal regulations.
The (ICP) is responsible for the surveillance and reporting of nosocomial infections. This includes the investigation of infections or clusters of infections as warranted as well as microbiological monitoring and risk remediation of the healthcare environment.
The ICP will have the clinical authority over the infection prevention and control program.
They will develop policies and drive adherence with best practices related to preventing the risk of hospital acquired infections. They will identify and report observed trends to medical and administrative team members and work collaboratively to implement strategies to decrease infections and improve outcomes. Within their role this person is responsible for providing consultation to departments or assigned practice settings on infection prevention and control program elements, practices and processes.
They will collect, review, and submit data to fulfil infection reporting requirements with CDC's National Healthcare Safety network and CDRS Communicable Disease Reporting Systems. In addition, they will be responsible for adherence with CMS reporting and data validation requirements.
They will also be responsible to review and analyze healthcare associated infection data, initiate special studies to investigate clusters of infections above expected levels, identify, research and report epidemiological variations in levels of disease. They will coordinate the data analysis obtained from surveillance activities and prepare the results for distribution to the appropriate committees, authorities, and staff.
Participates in developing and conducting educational and in-service programs, performs IP consults throughout the medical center and health system as needed, maintains leadership role with IP committee, and assures patient care is delivered according to safety guidelines and standard precautions practices according to regulatory bodies including TJC, CDC, NIOSH, and OSHA.
Maintains ongoing performance improvement activities related to medical center employee wellness, safety and infection prevention and communicate findings as appropriate. The IP will work collaboratively with the infectious disease medical chair and provide direction and guidance in the activities of the infection prevention program including chairing the Infection Control Committee.
They will also serve as a liaison with the NJ Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the NJ Hospital Association.
Eligible candidates include individuals that have completed a post-secondary education in a health-related field including but not limited to medicine, nursing, laboratory technology, public health, or biology.
3-5 years experience in Infection Prevention and Control in a healthcare setting preferred. Must be certified by the Infection Control and Epidemiology Board in Infection Control (CIC) or obtain certification within 3 years of hire.
Must have working knowledge of basic principles of epidemiology and possess excellent communication skills and the ability to get along well while multitasking and continually re-prioritizing tasks. Must have the ability to logically and independently plan and organize work assignments along with well-developed interpersonal skills. Candidate must possess analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills as well as the initiative and ability to set and achieve high standards of performance.
