The client in need of support is a 22 year old male that is in need of stability and trust. He lives alone, is verbal and has 1 staff member with him 24 hours a day. Candidates for this program must be able to be confident, maintain composure, have patience and be a positive influence in his life. He is a kid at heart that enjoys playing with swords, riding bike, nerf gun wars, Legos, watching tv and the slip and slide on hot summer days. He visits his grandma every other weekend (Friday am-Tuesday am) He does his own personal cares independently but needs some prompting. The ideal candidate needs to be able to remain calm during times when client is unable to regulate his emotions, and also model appropriate responses to challenging situations. Client struggles with impulsivity and will use foul language/yell/threaten as this is a symptom of his mental illness/developmental disability. Client enjoys accessing the community and rides in a company provided mini-van with divider to ensure staff and client safety. Client’s home has mag locks on doors and a backyard for privacy to prevent him from wondering off onto the road/out in the community alone.
We currently have 2 open positions:
1 -Full time 2nd shift (3pm-11pm)
1 -Full time 3rd shift (11pm-7am)
Shift differential is an additional $1.00 per hour from 2pm-10pm and an additional $2.00 per hour for all weekend shifts starting 10pm Friday through 1- pm Sunday.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assists in planning, directing and overseeing the learning, living and leisure time activities through direct interaction of client; enforces program rules, redirects in crisis situations, closely monitors location and activities of client 24-hours per day. Assures the health, safety, and well-being of client.
Maintains positive relationships; provides support, encouragement and information to the client and their families/guardians.
Directly interacts with and observes activities and behavior; fills out and completes daily reports and logs; consults with professionals regarding client’s behavior; completes and maintains other records as necessary.
Participates with direct interaction in planning and executing learning, recreational, social and daily living skills programs/activities.
Maintains order and administers positive redirection as necessary and appropriate without the use of physical or mechanical restraint.
Maintains positive, effective professional communication with parents, case managers, court staff, coworkers and other members of the community and working professionals.
Helps plan, develop, participate in and supervise a variety of community outings with our client. Sets realistic goals to get client out in the community.
Completes a variety of statistical and progress reports on clients’ activities.
Assists in planning nutritional meal program for client, in food preparation, storage and clean up.
Participates in staff development, attends related seminars, staff meetings and workshops.
Assists with shopping for food and other items needed by the client. Takes client shopping if part of his care plan.
Maintains required training/hours and certifications annually.

Education and Experience:
Successful completion of a criminal background check,caregiver background check, TB test and Health Screen prior to starting.
No experience is necessary.
On the Job Training.
Must be 18 to apply.
Valid Wisconsin Driver's License is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of and ability to help client with daily living/social skills. Direct cares is not needed in this program but may need reminders on what to do next.
Ability to utilize crisis intervention/de-escalation skills in handling emergency situations.
Ability and skill to relate with young people in a positive, respectful, responsible, unprejudiced and understanding manner using sound judgment.
Ability and skill to maintain a positive and effective working relationship with employees, case managers, parents, human service workers, parent/guardians, and the general public.
Ability and skill to provide safe, beneficial care and services to client.
Ability to prioritize multiple duties and responsibilities under changing circumstances.
Ability to exercise mature judgment at all times.
Ability to enforce the rules and regulations as established in HIL policy/procedures and as determined by State of Wisconsin.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to be a positive role model.
Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
Ability to work the required hours of the position and/or meet the minimum requirements of the position.
Administration of prescribed medications for the client.
Ability to complete all other duties as assigned by Direct Support Supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Mentally strong and able to maintain composure during stressful times.
Frequent standing, walking and sitting; occasional driving if approved by HIL.
Frequent bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
Communicating orally in a clear manner.
