Job Description

The Financial Accounting divisions’ main responsibility is the compilation and preparation of the financial statements for the System as well as maintenance of the Patient Accounts receivables. This position reports to the Director of Accounting and Finance with primary role of assisting in the compilation, review, and preparation of the Systems financial statements and is responsible for Department oversight and supervision in the absence of the Director.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare and maintain detailed workpapers for the preparation of the year end audited financial statements for the System, including those for HHC Insurance and the Accountable Care Organization. These workpapers are shared with outside auditors for each annual audit
  • Prepare unaudited quarterly financial statements for the System for upload to EMMA (the Electronic Municipal Management Authority) to meet our Bond obligations
  • Reviews accounts receivable analyses, third party retro calculations and financial statement financial ratios
  • Research financial statement variances and provides explanations.
  • Provide internal/external auditors with appropriate support documentation and facilitate their audits; respond to audit report recommendations as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly and fiscal year-end consolidated financial statements
  • Balance Sheet preparation, assists with presentations, and roll forward and variance analysis
  • Income Statement variance analysis and explanations
  • General Ledger account balance validation through transaction level analysis
  • Estimation and recording of pension and other post-employment benefits liabilities and expenses
  • Assist with implementation and presentation of new governmental accounting standards
  • Assists with the overall management of the year-end audit
  • Preparation of unaudited monthly financial statements for Gotham, the Systems array of FQHC’s
  • Provision of Census data to the Federal Government related to patient data both quarterly and yearly
  • Review and set up new accounts/new provisions for enactment of new GASB pronouncements
  • Debt compliance reporting for the System
  • PAAA financials preparation per the P-AAA requirements
  • Oversees the operation of Patient A/R to make determination to bring the receivables to net realizable value on a quarterly and yearly basis
  • Special Projects and other related duties as assigned/needed.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline; and three (3) years of experience in finance and general accounting operations, accounting and financial management, financial reporting, financial auditing, tax compliance, cash management or a related area, two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or managerial capacity; or
2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in disciplines, as listed in “1” above; and four (4) years of experience, as indicated in “1” above, two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or managerial capacity.

Department Preferences

  • 7+ years of related mid-to-senior-level experience within healthcare finance, preferably in general accounting operations or similar
  • Knowledgable in GASB Pronouncements (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles – GAAP for governmental entities)
  • Strong finance/general accounting experience
  • Experience with financial audits
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with meeting deadlines
