Overview

We are looking to fill a law enforcement position for the Department of Liquor and Lottery - Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE). DLL Investigators conduct youth access compliance, regulatory inspections, and complex criminal and regulatory investigations to determine if administrative or other disciplinary action including criminal arrest is warranted. You'll be working with a team to cover an assigned geographical area (zone) investigators will be engaged in the enforcement, administration, and implementation of all Vermont laws, with a primary focus and responsibility for liquor and lottery laws and regulations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the DLL Sergeant.

The position is home office based, DLL is looking for candidates that reside or are willing to reside in the following counties (DLL OCE ZONE 1 or ZONE 2) :

Grand Isle / Franklin / Orleans / Essex / Caledonia / Washington / Chittenden / Lamoille or the northern section of Orange County.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting as well as in the field. Frequent travel, exposure to the elements, and evening and weekend work is required. Stress may be encountered in dealing with arrestees, licensees facing punitive action or other individuals, including those under the influence of impairing substances. There is some risk of physical harm and exposure to potentially hazardous conditions. Patience, tact, and diplomacy must be exercised on a regular basis in dealing with licensees, employees, and the public. Significant work outside of normal business hours should be anticipated. Position is home office-based, with non-standard work week hours.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years or more of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as a primary investigator/detective on an investigative team.
Advanced degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field.

Special Requirements

Must be a Vermont Level III certified full-time law enforcement officer, or out of state equivalent able to obtain a waiver certification from the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council, within 6 months from date of hire.

Mental and physical condition appropriate to successfully perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential job functions. Applicants may be required to take a physical examination conducted by a physician selected by the Department of Liquor and Lottery.

This position is Group "C" retirement with mandatory retirement at age 57.
