SUMMARY
Prepare products for sale and assist customers in making purchases from the deli department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure that the customer service 10’rule policy is enforced throughout the department and the store.
  • Provide each customer excellent customer service by greeting them, smiling, assisting them while up selling for additional sales and
  • Knowledgeable in using deli equipment including slicer, scale, wrapper, cash register, fryer, and rotisserie.
  • Fills meat/cheese and floor displays as needed. Prepares salads and other items directed by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping and sanitation practices in the department.
  • Knowledgeable with the cash register and is accountable for over/shorts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities except when assigned for short periods of time in absence of the manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to run cash register and give correct change.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
