Position Title: Dean of Academics
Reports to: Chief Lead Administrator
Certification: Teacher Certification, Minimum of 5 years K-12 Education Experience including State and Federal Program Management and Reporting.
The Dean of Academics is a leader in support of school site readiness, general supervisory support and academic and instructional capacity building. Coordinates funded programming within the district and coordinates funded programming within the district.
Position Goals: Support instructional programs and teachers using data to inform decision-making; provide recommendations to administration regarding programs, conduct “learning walks” to assess curriculum and teacher development, promote student achievement.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Support AUL’s leadership team in identifying all process problems and concerns, and making. appropriate recommendations for corrective actions and resolutions to achieve desirable results.
- Conduct and schedule teacher learning walks.
- Build grade-level/content area action plans and materials to address data.
- Monitor grade-level progress against assessment cycle benchmarks.
- Plan and deliver high-quality professional development that trains staff members in AUL’s curricular systems and key pedagogical issues.
Be familiar with the schools’ scheduling and provide input to scheduling as needed.
- Provide support to staff with resources and information.
- Support the School Pathway to Leadership program and able to articulate the short and long term goals of the Pathway program.
- Utilizing performance metrics to identify performance levels for all staff teachers and making performance recommendations.
- Able to use data to drive instruction.
- Implementing educational programs for all students and assist the leadership team and teachers in developing educational services to support educational programs effectively.
- Imparting training and coaching to all teachers and related staff to advance programming
- Utilizing metrics to identify performance levels for all staff.
- Provide input into teacher professional development plans
- Provide recommendations on Teacher Professional Development plans.
- Evaluate testing data and make recommendations to Lead Administrator.
- All other duties and responsibilities as a defined by Lead Administrator.

- Classroom Experience

- Knowledge of best practices for instruction
- Knowledge of Danielson Framework for Instruction

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tracks funded programs in the comprehensive improvement planning process.
Integrates instructional grant programs among the campuses and articulates curricula between elementary/middle and secondary programs assuring fulfillment of grant requirements.
Assists and provides the building principal and district administrators with data to ensure fidelity with funded programs.
Prepares and submits all federal, state and funded program reports.
Provides up-date reports regarding federal, state and funded projects to the Chief Lead School Administrator, other school administrators, Principal, Board Members, and parents as they become available.
Coordinates with administrators the implementation and monitoring of federal, state and funded programs.
Assists in data gathering, assessments, and evaluation of all funded programs.
Develops, monitors, and coordinates with the School Business Administrator on funded program budgets and budgetary reports as well as ensuring the filing of these reports on a timely basis with the appropriate granting agencies.
Monitors and tracks expenditures of funded projects for accuracy and compliance.
Coordinates allocations to private and nonpublic schools as required by state and federal programs.
Participates in the annual budget development activities for state and federal programs.
Remains current on laws and requirements regarding each program, and meets with related staff to interpret and implement regulations.
Assists in the recruiting/attending jobs fairs, interviewing, screening and recommending of qualified candidates for positions on school staffs.
Assists with all assessment and accountability programs, data analysis and interpretation.
Promote appropriate and ethical assessment practices within the district.
Demonstrate effective administrative skills, communication skills, and organizational skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from shareholders, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to give presentations and written communication as needed. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, public groups/community, and board of education.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to keep develop budget and balance budget.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Ability to use technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleges, parents, and the community; and conduct research/solve problems. Proficiency in technology skills must be demonstrated based on the performance criteria for teacher standards for technology.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and shareholders. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
