Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated system of care that includes HCMC, a nationally recognized Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and acute care hospital. SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to join our team. This full time role will work days (primarily remote).
The Data Scientist provides high level data analytics and statistical support to the organization and its researchers. Using multiple reporting and data visualization tools, the Data Scientist provides insights and is able present data to operational stakeholders and researchers in a meaningful way while also partnering and advising on the nuances of the data. A successful Data Scientist should be adept at managing multiple projects and driving forward progress with limited supervision. The ideal candidate should be motivated, driven, and creative while also willing to pitch in and help take on some functions of a Business Intelligence Developer as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Applies statistical analysis and visualization techniques to various data in support of published articles
- Utilizes knowledge of statistical techniques and concepts such as regression, statistical tests and experience applying those techniques
- Consults with Subject matter experts to understand the underlying workflows and processes
- Generates hypotheses about the underlying workflows and data collection techniques
- Partners with researchers and operational leaders to understand their hypothesis and give recommendations on processes
- Extracts data from EHR to supply researchers with data to meet their research needs
- Performs data mining. Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets
- Interprets data and develops recommendations based on findings
- Responsible for the ongoing monitoring and refinement of reports and troubleshooting complex issues
- Provides consultation and expertise in Geocoding and mapping
- Understands, interprets, and optimizes predictive models
- Utilizes data presentation skills to deliver results to senior leadership across the organization
- Trains and coaches peers on basic data science principles
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, operations research, statistics or related field
- Five years of experience in data analysis within a healthcare institution
- Two to four years of experience extracting data using SQL, SAS, R or similar tools

- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Experience in research, healthcare outcomes research, health statistics, health services research, or quality improvement
- Experience with predictive models and/or Epic predictive models
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Firm understanding of the nuances of the healthcare business structure and the ability to apply this knowledge to analytical projects
- Strong data manipulation techniques and proficiencies
- Knowledge of report writing, strong SQL, WEBi, and/or Crystal Reports skills
- Ability to query large relational databases
- Knowledge of statistics and statistical processes
- Knowledge of ArcGIS mapping software or similar programs
- Expert problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to create meaningful data visualizations
- Very Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of coding and classification systems
- Understanding of risk adjustment models, outcome measurements and Database design
License/Certifications:
- Epic Clarity Certification in a Clarity Clinical data model or the ability to obtain certification within 9 months
