Clinical Pathology Associates, Waco Division has an immediate fulltime position for a Cytotechnologist.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A Cytotechnologist is a healthcare professional who is skilled in examining human cellular material in search of abnormalities. Their duties include staining and processing cellular specimens followed by microscopic examination. When required, this position will act as a backup to perform Molecular Pathology testing.
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt TYPE OF POSITION: Full Time
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Microscopically examine GYN cases.
A. Utilize both manual and automated review scopes.
B. Operates the automated review scope of the Hologic Thin Prep Imager System. Troubleshoots and maintains Imager quality assurance data when directed.
C. Identify abnormalities by marking cells and forwarding to supervisor or pathologist.
D. Identify cases for Quality Assurance overscreen in accordance with approved procedures and protocols.
E. Enter findings or results into the Pathology computer system.
F. Overscreen Quality Assurance cases when indicated or requested.
2. Performs the initial screening of Non-GYN cases for the Pathologists.
3. Assist pathologists and other physicians with FNA (fine needle aspirations) procedures.
- Performs rapid staining of FNA specimens if indicated.
B. Cleans FNA suite after each use.
4. Reviews cases issued by the Cytopathology supervisor and/or Pathologist for quarterly quality assurance and maintains a daily log of slide count and time screening.
- Assists in presenting continuing education materials.
- Maintains mandatory proficiency testing compliance in accordance with CLIA requirements.
- Accessions Cytopathology specimens into the computer system when necessary.
- Provides Administrative support to the Cytology Department
- Miscellaneous duties in support of CPA, Waco Division as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisory personnel.
WORK EXPERENCE REQUIREMENT
Prefer 1-3 years of experience as a Cytotechnologist within a healthcare setting.
Certified by a certification agency approved and recognized by the Department Health and Human Services.
Current accreditation from ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) as a CT (ASCP) and up-to-date continuing education credits.
Knowledge of healthcare terminology.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Chemistry from an accredited university and/or from an accredited School of Cytotechnology
Must have certification as a CT (ASCP).
Must possess necessary qualifications to perform high complexity testing under the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) regulations
