Job Overview
The Specialist Human Resources I Leaves Customer Care is responsible for the intake, logging, and tracking of extended leave of absence requests and ensuring all proper documentation is received and accurate. The incumbent will be well versed in different types of leave, including but not limited, to Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA), Temporary Disability Leave (TDL) and Unpaid Leave (UPL). The incumbent will provide employees with accurate information related to medical certification requirements, return-to-work, and leave guidelines. The Specialist Human Resources I Leaves Customer Care will exemplify an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, excellent customer service, high level of confidentiality, and high performance.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Care Service Delivery

  • Provide employees with accurate and information related to medical certification requirements, return-to-work, and Leave guidelines
  • Provide direction and guidance with employees and supervisors concerning FMLA and other extended leave options displaying thorough knowledge of Federal and State laws including FLSA, FMLA and various other regulations
  • Intake all extended leave requests and manage tracking in all applicable systems
  • Follow up with employees and campuses for any pending documentation
  • Intake and review all documentation to ensure completion accuracy of information
  • Review all leave and disabilities related documentation for completeness; communicate and forward notification to the proper areas accordingly
  • Identify problems and priorities, perform research, determine follow-up steps, and resolves issues to completion
  • Exemplify direct knowledge related to various leave types (FMLA, TDL, UPL, etc.)
  • Maintain compliance with all federal and state regulations in relation to all FMLA guidelines
  • Provide ongoing advice, assistance and guidance concerning continuous improvement of Leaves processes
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality of information
  • Provide quality customer service for customers via phone and email ; Assist with all aspects of service across the District
  • Assist customers in a courteous and professional manner that supports standards providing excellent culture of care
Administrative Support
  • Maintain tracking in various systems
  • Administer various plans and procedures per Human Resources for all employees
  • Advise and assist in all areas of Human Resources and troubleshoot issues before escalating to next level
  • Participate in the development of department goals, objectives and systems
  • Ensure involvement in extra projects as needed, including compiling reports and providing training to team members

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Human Resources support role
  • Minimum of 2 years office experience; preferably Human Resources
  • Proficiency with PC operation including word processing, excel spreadsheets and databases
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of personal computers and software
  • Exhibit genuine and consistent passion for customer service
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy with a strong focus on customer care
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to present a warm and friendly disposition to all internal and external customers

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Additional Information
  • Work is primarily in an office but also requires work outside the office. Work on very detailed, employee-sensitive, highly confidential documents while maintaining a high level of integrity and discretion. Work for long periods of time on tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Work may involve completion of analytic and narrative documents with deadlines, involving stressful situation and long hours.
  • In accordance with FBISD’s Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) plan, this position is in the Remote or Flex-Option category. The employee in this position must reside in Texas and must be able to work onsite when called upon, within a day’s notice. The employee will work with the supervisor to develop a system to ensure accountability and reporting of time and completion of assigned tasks/projects. This position’s work category can be changed if performance concerns related to remote work arise and are unresolved after being addressed by the employee’s direct supervisor or if the job role changes and no longer qualifies for Remote or Flex-Option. The District, at its sole discretion may discontinue FWA at any time.
