Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (SE41) - Transport
Full Time - Permanent
Salary Range: $4,169 - $5,606 Monthly
The Department of Corrections, Transportation Unit, has a permanent, full time, Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (CO2) opening available in Kennewick, Washington. This position, position number SE41, is located at the Benton County Jail in Kennewick, Washington.
The work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Work hours are determined by unit needs and are at the discretion of the unit supervisor. If you are currently working an alternate schedule, please be aware that this position may not be able to honor that schedule. For questions, please contact the Human Resource Office.
Duties

As a CO2 for Transport , some of your duties will include:
- Transporting incarcerated and/or supervised individuals (including community corrections violators), to and from prison facilities, work release facilities, jails, and other secure holding facilities as directed in a safe, secure, effective, and humane fashion while maintaining professionalism at all times.
- Verify transport order(s)
- Search individuals
- Apply restraints
- Operating a state/rental vehicle (must possess a valid, unrestricted license at all times)
- Supervise individuals during transportation
- Load/unload property, files, medications, etc.
- Monitor/observe/address behavior
- Control and direct individuals
- Using appropriate force, as needed, to maintain public safety and staff safety and security
- Complete required documentations
- Operate communication devices to accurately relay information
- Effectively communicate with other
- Carry a firearm, Taser, OC, and other related equipment and wear a protective vest while on duty.
- Maintaining assigned vehicle, equipment, and accessories
- Inspect vehicle and equipment
- Schedule required maintenances (as required)
- Keep assigned equipment clean, in good repair, and serviceable at all times
- Report and document problems and failures
- Maintain proper use, control and accountability of keys, tools, and equipment
- Effectively communicate information to supervisors and employees
- Brief appropriate personnel and pertinent information to make aware of current and potential situations that may require action.
- Recall detailed observations and write reports regarding occurrences that may require action by supervisor
- Write incident reports or disciplinary reports detailing individuals’ behavior and violations of rules and regulations
- Maintain daily activity logs
- Attend all required training and maintain certifications, as required
- Attend all annual department required in-service training ton include Firearms, OC, Control & Defensive Tactics Training.
- Maintain certification for Taser equipment.
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License with no restrictions.

Qualifications
What we need (required qualifications):
- At least One (1) year experience as a Corrections & Custody Officer.
- Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
- Ability to carry a firearm, Taser, OC, and other related equipment and wear a protective vest while on duty.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a respirator. Incumbent must remain clean shaven in the area of the respirator fit and have medical clearance to wear a respirator.
- Must have and maintain firearms qualifications and use of force equipment certifications.
- Must be fit tested.
- Must be lawfully able to possess a firearm.
- Use control and impedance tactics as needed to control a resistive individual.
