DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. About New Sampson Correctional Institution:
Sampson Correctional Institution is located in Clinton, North Carolina and houses up to 418 male offenders in a medium custody facilityThis position was located within the Department of Public Safety (DPS) but transferred to the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) on January 1, 2023.

Reporting to the Warden II, this position will provide supervision of subordinate staff. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Managing the total programs services of a medium custody facility.
Directly supervising the educational, classification, recreational, religion, and medical services as well as the traditional program components for offenders.
Serving as acting Warden in the absence of the Warden II and participating as part of the management team.
Providing on-going training to staff and is in charge of planning, direction, and enhancement of programs within the correctional facility.
Evaluating recommendations from the Correctional Programs Supervisors and/or other senior officials.
Evaluating feasibility of programs and providing status reports to the Warden II.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Skills in supervision and management techniques
  • Knowledge of supportive counseling or treatment programs
  • Knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private program

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field and three years of experience in correctional programs management or related work
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
