JOB SUMMARY
This part-time administrative position in the Naslund-Mann Graduate School Writing is responsible for coordinating admissions, registration, and residency planning and logistics for the School of Writing students, faculty, alumni, and staff. This position reports to the Chair of the School of Writing. Minorities, underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
The School of Writing offers 3 levels of graduate programs (certificate, Master of Arts, and Master of Fine Art) in a low-residency format, which means that each semester begins with an in-person, 8-day residency attended by students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The residency is followed by an at-home independent study for the rest of the semester.
This position is an 18 hour a week in-office position. Suggested hours are T-W-Th 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; however, alternatives can be discussed. For the School of Writings two 8-day residencies (May and November), the position requires a commitment of additional hours of 40-45 hours a week over the 8 days, including weekends.
Salary range: $18.00 $19.00/hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

Works directly with the School of Writing constituents to support processes and solve problems related to admissions, registration, financial aid, payments, graduation, and residency attendance.
- Coordinates two 8-day residencies for about 100 people. Tasks include working directly with vendors and providing logistical support during residency events (for example, arranging housing, food services, arts events). Tasks also include reserving and confirming classroom/meeting room space, processing catering contracts and residency-related invoices for payment, coordinating details with guest speakers and faculty, event transportation, and coordinating with campus departments (e.g., safety and facilities) to arrange campus services, as needed.
- Collects and disseminates residency and independent study documents/information as needed, such as lecture descriptions, practical residency information, student assignments, and workshop booklets.
- Assists with the School of Writing online magazine Good River Review, recruiting and retention, social media, Homecoming, and SpaldingCon (winter writers conference), as needed.
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree (English, Journalism, Communications, Social Work majors preferred)
- Minimum 3 years experience in an academic/nonprofit setting or experience in event planning
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills,
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Ability to multitask, detail oriented, adhere to deadlines
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and alumni
- Computer skills include Microsoft Office and database software. Familiarity with Datatel, Sharepoint, and Canvas a plus
