The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is dedicated to serving pre-K through 12th grade schoolteachers in order to enhance the learning of the children of North Carolina. The Center’s primary purpose is to provide high quality professional learning through residential, regional, school-based, and online programming. Program content is based on current needs of teachers and state initiatives.
This position will assist the Food Services Director in culinary services operations including, but not limited to, food preparation and presentation, activities relating to purchasing and inventory, and enforcing sanitation and health standards of Environmental health and the Jackson County Health Department. Work is reviewed by a supervisor to ensure that food is prepared safely according to schedule and that food waste is minimal.
Hours and shifts may vary depending on programming schedules.
Salary range: $31,200.00 - $44,509.00 Annually
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
- Knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.
- Knowledge of the amounts of raw food needed to supply the number of persons to be served.
- Knowledge of the standard tools, methods, and practices utilized to maintain food safety.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain high standards of sanitation as outlined in the NC Food Code.
- Considerable knowledge of the uses and adaptabilities of the various pieces of equipment including kettles, convection ovens, convection steamers, braising pans, mixer, food processors, slicers and deep fryers.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interpret and follow standard recipes and prescribed.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be required to obtain ServSafe Certification within first six months of employment.
Possession of or ability to secure a valid health certificate issued by the County Health Department is required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.
