Conventional Machinist I - 1st Shift Job at Hawker Pacific Inc.
Hawker Pacific Aerospace, Sun Valley, CA is seeking Conventional Machinist I to support its Machining department. Selected applicant will be responsible for independently setting up, adjusting and regularly operating a variety of precision machines such as lathes, knee mill, horizontal boring mills and surface grinders to perform machining functions within an assigned machining area. Responsible for ensuring that machined locations must be maintained to exacting tolerances given. Requires a broad knowledge of machining practices and procedures.
This position may be assigned to one or more departments depending upon the company needs at the time.
Essential Duties
This individual has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned task. May be assigned some or all duties indicated below depending on job progression level.
Set up assigned machine(s) using fixtures, angle plates, rotary tables, etc. to complete the operation required on the work piece.- Use precision measuring instruments; standard machine shop measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometers depth gages, height gages, gages etc.). Check machined parts for finish and dimensions.
- Produce micro finishes and hold tight tolerances while machining difficult to hold aircraft components.
- Utilize and interpret charts, tables, blueprints, handbook formulas, sketches, verbal orders, job layouts, and shop mathematics including trigonometry.
- Ensure that all the traceability for work performed is complete and legible.
- Select and secure proper tools, fixtures, machine attachments, equipment, etc. to expeditiously accomplish assigned work.
- Perform any bench work / burring necessary to finish parts, to required quality specifications.
- Ensure full utilization of the machines capacities, minimizing the amounts of machining and setups needed
- Sharpen own tools as needed.
- Layout and inspect completed work.
- Detect faulty tools and replace them.
- Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale.
- Adhere to all the rules, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Responsibility to work with LEAN Manufacturing principles.
- Performs other duties as required by business needs.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience: 1-3 years’ experience in machining.
Preferred: Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Landing Gear Experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Great analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Superior presentation and negotiation skills. Strong adaptability and capacity to work in fast-paced environments. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Attention to detail and ability to multitask tasks from multiple administrators. SAP Knowledge.
