Overview
Growing Multi-Location law firm based in Los Angeles is looking for a Controller. Position reports directly to the CEO/CFO of the company. The right candidate will have experience managing the financial responsibilities of the firm that include annual budgeting, billing, cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger. Other areas of responsibility will be 401(k) plan administration.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, annual operating plan and reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Financial reporting – generation of financials, ad-hoc reporting, journal entry preparation, major account reconciliation
  • Expense management - expense report approvals and monitoring; purchase order and vendor management
  • Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, and billing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting staff, recommending and implementing personnel actions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, vendor, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Implement new processes to improve the effectiveness of the accounting department.
  • Prepare or direct forecast income, expenses and earning reports.
  • Provide Management reports on business performance measurements.
  • Counsel Management on Financial matters.
  • Train account staff to ensure accounting records and financial reporting is prompt, accurate and meets business requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 10+ years financial management experience, including Accounting Department management, financial reporting and information systems expertise, including law firm experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting/Finance.
  • Highly motivated person that is able to handle a high volume of work with accuracy.
  • Ability to be an independent thinker and find solutions to problems.
  • Computer skills including accounting software, Microsoft Office, Concur, ProLaw or similar law firm billing software experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to interface with all levels of personnel
