Community Organizer - Forest Hills (NORC) Job at QUEENS COMMUNITY HOUSE
Status: Full-Time through June 30, 2023 and Part-Time after July 1, 2023
Compensation: Non-Exempt, $18-20/hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: 108-03 62nd Drive, Forest Hills, NY 11375

Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Forest Hills NORC, the Community Organizers works to engage older adult residents of the Forest Hills Mutual Housing Association (MHA) in order to build community and provide opportunities for program engagement and enhancement. The goal of the Forest Hills NORC is to support the ability of those older adult residents to age in place by facilitating connections to health, financial, social, and environmental resources.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach to expand NORC membership
- Organize and implement an annual membership satisfaction survey and community needs assessment
- Recruit membership for a NORC Advisory Council and convene regular meetings
- Provide opportunities for leadership skill development to promote membership's civic engagement
- Engage NORC members in agency- and/or funding source- sponsored advocacy opportunities
- In collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director, develop relationships with local organizations in service of supporting the NORC members and program
- In collaboration with NORC staff, provide direct assistance to NORC members, assist with program coordination and development, and perform other duties as requested
Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion.
- Self-motivated and resourceful; able to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
PREFERRED skills/experience/qualities:
- Community organizing and/or outreach experience
- Experience working with or on behalf of older adults
- Bilingual in English/Spanish, English/Russian, or English/Mandarin
