Community Engagement Program Coordinator Job at Klickitat County Washington
This position’s primary focus is on waste diversion and recycling by developing, managing, and implementing community engagement programs to achieve goals related to recycling, waste prevention and hazardous household waste including development and analysis of solid waste reduction and recycling data and metrics This position also acts as a liaison between Republic Services and the Klickitat County Board of Commissioners and coordinates with the Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee.
- Oversee projects promoting waste reduction, recycling, household hazardous waste, moderate risk waste, and litter programs.
- Act as primary point of contact between Klickitat County Board of Commissioners and Republic Services for all non-contract issues.
- Facilitate and implement waste consultations, recycling opportunities, education and promotion of programs for government and commercial facilities
- Prepare and submit budgets, grant applications, and progress reports
- Lead, plan, design, implement, and manage solid waste programs to divert organics (i.e., yard waste, food waste, and food-soiled paper) and recyclables in the residential and commercial sectors.
- Design, plan and present educational program and information materials including technical outreach and assistance, educational presentations, and training for internal and external stakeholders including schools, community groups and community events.
- Create outreach materials and advise others on outreach strategies, tactics, and materials.
- Develop and review focus groups, surveys, and other programmatic evaluations.
- Develop, gather, and review metrics and data that help support program design, success, and achieving solid waste goals
- Act as program spokesperson for Klickitat County recycling and waste prevention programs.
- Develop and write press releases, fact sheets, and social media posts support media events.
- Develop and manage work plans and the department budget.
- Write request for proposals, manage procurement processes, negotiate contracts, and manage consultants and vendors.
- Develop, negotiate, and manage memorandums of agreement with other jurisdictions, agencies, and community groups.
- Coordinate with other jurisdictions, agencies, community groups, not-for-profits and private companies on joint promotion efforts.
- Perform system administrator functions for department webpage.
- Attend conferences and workshops related to waste activities and programs
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or GED (AA or BA/BS degree preferred).
Experience: Minimum of two years of program experience in one of more of the following: recycling, organics collection, public/private education or training, information programs.
Or Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.
- Experience using software applications to develop media for print and for website. Examples are: Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, Quark Express page layout software, MS Access database software, MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel Experience writing and producing radio public service announcements.
- Experience creating educational content for website.
- Basic knowledge of website/page development and user interface design.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to lead effectively within a multicultural work environment
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including written and verbal communications
- Experience developing work plans and tracking performance measures
- Budget management skills
- Ability to prepare and make presentations to diverse audiences
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse community groups, agencies, and organizations
- Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multi-cultural workforce serving a diverse customer base
- Experience conducting market research
- Experience with program development and administration
Valid state driver's license in the state of residence
