Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Communications Specialist I to support our Office of Connected Care (OCC) team at the Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role, you will assist in a variety of communication activities aimed at raising awareness of issues and improving the dissemination of informational materials to the public and policymakers. Your efforts will be crucial in supporting the OCC's mission to extend access to care beyond traditional office visits through digital technology.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and execution of communication activities, including press releases, newsletters, social media content, and other informational materials.
- Obtain necessary clearance for communication activities in accordance with departmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Develop materials for dissemination to various audiences, ensuring messaging is consistent, accurate, and engaging.
- Prepare presentation materials for meetings, conferences, and other events.
- Maintain and update mailing lists for the dissemination of materials, ensuring accurate and up-to-date contact information.
- Assist in the development of issue-related reports and materials, supporting the team's strategic communication objectives.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information and insights for communication initiatives.
- Monitor and track the effectiveness of communication efforts, providing recommendations for improvement as needed.
- Assist in other communication-related tasks and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to create engaging content for various communication channels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and other relevant software tools.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal healthcare organizations.
- Familiarity with digital communication platforms, such as social media management tools, email marketing platforms, and content management systems.
- Experience in graphic design or multimedia production, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or other design software.
- Familiarity with health systems and healthcare stakeholder groups including but not limited to: providers, support teams, management, C-Suite leaders, and system leadership.

Eligibility:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

Compensation:
Salary for this position is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience, as well as contract specific affordability and organizational requirements. The proposed salary range for this position is outlined below.
Salary range: $55,000 - $65,000
