Utica First Insurance Company is currently seeking a Commercial Lines

Underwriter for our Oriskany, NY location.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

• Evaluate risks according to susceptibility and damageability in light of nature

and location of property and operations, physical and moral hazards involved

and underwriting precedent and experience.

• To evaluate risks within the Guidelines of the Underwriting Procedure

Manual.

• Review info received concerning risks, inspection reports, credit reports, etc.

• Respond to inquiries from Agency plant and field force regarding

underwriting problems.

• Have a working knowledge of rating.

• Examine the loss experience of assigned agents and recommend appropriate

action, when necessary.

• Working knowledge of computing systems.

• Respond to outside inquiries.

• Work with assigned underwriting mentor on an ongoing basis, as necessary.

• Visit agents and conduct meetings and presentations as directed.

• All other tasks involving project work as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications:

• 4-year college degree or prior underwriting experience required

• Prior knowledge of commercial lines required

• Knowledge of Microsoft Word required

• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred

• Insurance coursework including CPCU, AU or AINS preferred

• Public Speaking skills preferred

Travel:

Occasional Travel (to include overnight as required). This will require an acceptable

Motor Vehicle Record.
