Collections Specialist/REMOTE Job at USPI

Our billing office is looking for a Collector to work remotely 4 days a week and 1 day at the facility after training is complete.

JOB SUMMARY: The Collections Specialist is responsible for effective and efficient collection efforts to significantly reduce days outstanding, improve cash flow, and minimize bad debt expense.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Position reports to the Business Office Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize the collection follow-up efforts on all outstanding receivables. Analyze system-generated reports to determine the appropriate emphasis needed and action required (prioritize). Review account information prior to making phone contact.

Pursue payment from insurance companies for outstanding claims.

Pursue payment from guarantor for outstanding patient liabilities.

Document action taken and results in the patient accounting system account notes.

Responsible for working aging by touching each account no less than once per month.

Respond to inbound mail from insurance companies and patients.

Assign accounts to outside collection agencies for further action. Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.

Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for business office according to accepted standards.

Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population.

Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.

Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.

Weekly and monthly reporting to direct supervisor.

Informs Manager of applicable day-to-day situations.

Monthly Delinquency notices.

Processing monthly credit memos and the appropriate reporting.

Reconcile customer disputes as they pertain to payment of outstanding balances that are due.

Internal and External customer interface.

Meet defined department goals and activity metrics.

Maintains a working relationship with payment poster, billing and scheduling to ensure proper payment.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As Assigned by Business Office Manager

Participate in USPI EDGE program.

Required Skills:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATION and EDUCATIONAL AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent. One to three months of related experience and/or training. Or Equivalent combination of education and experience. Communication skills: ability to effectively present information to patients, physicians, and other employees of surgery center. Basic math skills.
