SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for supporting and monitoring coding activities to ensure that records have appropriate documentation and are coded for billing within the set lag hold day criteria. Assigns work duties as necessitated by fluctuating patient census volume. Supervisor works with WHS physicians, Business Office, Billing Departments, Case Management, and other WHS customers on coding inquiries. Responsible to develop education for the coding, coding audit, and coding appeals departments cover both WHC and WHC service lines. Responds to insurance inquiries as needed. Assists with internal and external coding audits as requested. Prepare ad hoc reports as requested. Other duties as assigned.
REPORT RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the HIM Director
REQUIREMENTS: 1) Bachelor’s Degree required 2) Current AHIMA certification: CCS, RHIA, or RHIT credential required. 3) Minimum of 3 years coding (in/out/ambulatory) experience required. 4) Previous Supervisory experience preferred
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY THREE: There is no anticipated risk of exposure to mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashed during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed, and protective devices worn by the employee when performing a task that is likely to cause exposure.
