CNC Department Manager
Taunton, MA

  • Work as part of a growing wood manufacturing team building new & innovative products.
  • Manage & train junior programmers & operators to develop their skills so they become more independent team members.
  • Project manage, troubleshoot, & resolve production challenges in the CNC Department, coordinate change orders on existing manufacturing lines.
  • Design and create jigs and methods of work holding in coordination with Product Designers.
  • Use Fusion360 and SolidWorks software to create CAD models and program toolpaths for CNC routers.
  • Assess how to best complete projects on time and in budget
  • Investigate ways to improve productivity and lower material costs. Spearhead continual process improvements for file management, tool paths, tool selection, work holding/jigs, process flow, & machine changeovers.
  • Assist to land new machines and get these machines up and running with minimal downtime.
  • Assist with maintenance and breakdowns on machines that operators are not able to complete, either by jumping in or utilizing outside vendors.

Wyrmwood is hiring a CNC Department Manager to build out and manage our Massachusetts’ shop CNC department (currently the department has 4 Anderson CNCs, and 1 Komo CNC). Our ideal teammate has 5+ years of experience with programming CNCs, is a creative problem solver, and has a strong capability for developing programs and jigs with a focus on scalability and quality. Of additional interest would be a teammate with a background in woodworking, especially furniture or small wooden products.

Our Ideal CNC Department Manager

  • Experienced: 5+ years of experience with CNC Programming and Operations. Knowledge of furniture and/or small wood products is preferred.
  • Technical: Familiar with AlphaCam, Fusion360, SolidWorks, or a similar CAD/CAM software. Able to learn new software quickly and read technical drawings. (Wyrmwood uses Fusion360 and SolidWorks, transitioning to only SolidWorks)
  • Team Oriented: Humble, can admit mistakes. Drives for high-quality work. Good people skills.
  • Effective Communicator: Communicates clearly & effectively with operators, junior programmers, production teams, and management.
  • Problem Solver: Thinks outside the box, is able to pivot ideas quickly. Open ended problems are a constant hurdle and are a part of the product development process.
  • Efficient: Determines efficient and cost-effective ways to produce high-quality products
  • Flexible: Willing to tackle small or large projects and adjust priorities as needed
  • Asks Questions: We value continuous improvement, and our team is constantly asking – “How can we do this better?” and working towards solutions
  • Active: This position involves spending time on the production floor, standing, walking, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
