A Certified Nursing Assistant, or Certified Nursing Aide, is responsible for supporting medical and other staff in administering care to residents with various injuries, illnesses or disabilities. Their duties include helping residents bathe and maintain proper hygiene, feeding residents or ensuring they take their medication and assessing their residents’ vital signs to notify staff of any changes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Carey Certified Nursing Assistants are responsible for many resident care tasks to ensure that each patient receives the comprehensive and personalized care they need. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting with grooming and bathing residents with low mobility
- Assisting with the preparation of each resident room with necessary items like blankets, pillows, medical equipment and bathroom needs
- Helping residents eat prepared meals, snacks, and take medications
- Making sure they have regular meals and proper medication dosages
- Monitoring vitals and resident behavior and reporting them to the nursing, supervisory, and medical staff
- Assisting residents with mobility needs, transferring them from wheelchair to bed
- Turning or adjusting patients in bed to prevent bedsores or other discomfort
- Assisting residents with exercising based on their care plan and individual capabilities
- Encouraging resident participation in programming
Required Skills and Qualifications include:

- Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for a number of medical conditions
- Comfortable working with specific populations of residents, including aging residents and those with mental illness and other special needs
- Physical strength and stamina
Minimum Education and Training Requirements:
Requires a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s license and State required insurance. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED and must have passed a certified nursing assistant state-approved education and training program.
Required Experience:
Experience in a long-term residential environment is preferred but not required. Understanding of behavioral health and related social, psychological and health issues. Complete knowledge of the organizations related programs, practices and policies as well as rules of documentation and confidentiality. Requires the ability to read, analyze and interpret written information including regulations and effectively communicate verbally and in writing where information includes precise date and terminology, possibly of a confidential nature.
Physical Requirements:
Walking: Must be able to walk around the facility to provide services to residents and respond quickly in the event of an emergency.
Lifting: Must be able to easily lift 25 lbs.
Kneeling: Must be able to kneel for 5 minutes and have the physical stamina to perform CPR as needed
Sitting: Must be able to sit 30 minutes without interruption
Standing: Must be able to stand for at least one hour multiple times per shift as needed.
Bending: Must be able to bend down and pick up supplies as needed.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $14.50 - $16.00 per hour
