Classroom Assistants & Direct Support Professionals (DSP)

These position works under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher or Program Manager serving individuals with a variety of special needs (children and adults with behavioral and emotional challenges and with cognitive or developmental delays). Working in a collaborative, team based model, the Classroom Assistant or Direct Support Professional will work with selected individuals to implement individual lesson plans, behavioral plans or individual service plans. Work is performed using a systems approach that follows the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based teaching methods.

QUALIFICATIONS

HS diploma required with experience working with relevant population and at least 21 years of age.

BS/BA degree in education or a related field preferred. Experience with Windows, Outlook, and MS

Word preferred. Experience with proprietary software preferred. Valid VA driver’s license with excellent driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of ABA principles, basic classroom procedure and appropriate intervention procedures with socially, emotionally, cognitively and developmentally challenged children and/or adults. Basic academic skills necessary to effectively perform the responsibilities of the position. Able to creatively organize and implement a variety of supplemental programs for the students or clients. Knowledge of basic first aid procedures. Knowledge of appropriate methods of physical restraint and able to implement those methods appropriately. Able to appropriately use proprietary software. Able to work effectively in collaborative, shared leadership environment. Able to be flexible and appropriately handle stressful situations. Able to be an effective role model.

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

SALARY: $13.50 -$15.00 per hour
