City Accountant
The City of Toledo, Washington is looking for a City Accountant. You will be an integral part in
Toledo’s growth over the next few years. Come in and evaluate existing accounting processes and recommend efficiencies and changes. Build a robust financial foundation to help Toledo get to the next level of growth that is currently in the planning stages.

Council.

General Summary of Position
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statement preparation. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecasting activities.
General Duties and Expectations
- Bookkeeping and Accounting services for the City of Toledo
- Prepare Payroll
- Maintain City employee benefit records
- Handle City deposits
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for City Council
- Submit monthly reports and requirements to the Department of Revenue
- Prepare and execute monthly utilities billing
- Document all business financial transactions
- Manage all financial reports and bank statements
- Lead City personnel in preparing and monitoring City budgets.
- Manage tax and licensing fees as they pertain to City business and planning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of municipal laws and how they apply to the City of Toledo
- Provide direction to new City growth areas as they pertain to City revenue and expenditures.
- Responsible for all reporting requirement from State Auditor’s Office, Lewis County Assessor and the Association of Washington Cities.
Essential Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED equivalent. Post high school education highly desirable.
- Previous municipal accounting work experience (2 Years +)
- Solid knowledge of accounting practices as they relate to municipal entities.
- Understanding of government laws and processes. You need to know how State and Local government works.
- Strong ethic and the ability to maintain high standards for yourself and others.
- Detailed oriented and committed to error-free work products
- Knowledge of computer technology and the tools used in running a City office (e.g.
Microsoft Office tools, spreadsheet knowledge, digital records filing and management)
- Problem solving skills. Be able to assess unknown situations and guide their resolution.
- Firm understanding of priorities and deadlines. Be able to successfully guide and assist all areas of the City in honoring commitments.
- People Skills. You need to have tact in varied situations and with a variety of people.
Desirable Qualifications
- GAAP Certification
- Knowledge or use of Vision Municipal Solutions tools is a strong plus.
- High desire to use computer tools to help the City become more efficient and assist all City personnel to stay informed and working toward common goals and objectives.

Compensation and Benefits
- $40,000 - $55,000 base salary depending on experience.
- Full-time permanent position
- Monday through Friday with evening meetings several times per month.
