Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.

Position Qualifications

Job Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience working in a childcare or preschool setting.
• Must possess a current State or Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• CPR and First Aid Certified.

Preferred Experience:

• 2+ Years working in a childcare or preschool setting

Preferred Education

• Associates Degree Higher or 60 certified credits in Early Childhood Development.

Essential Functions:

• Supervise the health and safety needs of children during classroom and outdoor activities.
• Plan and implement lessons that encourages physical health, communication, literacy, social, emotional, and cognitive development hat are age appropriate.
• Completes assessments, screenings, and surveys of children in the areas of social, cognitive, physical, and emotional development.
• Develops lesson plans for the classroom that align with Early Childhood Learning Standards and prepares learning materials as needed.
• Maintains cleanliness and hygiene of classroom/supplies and reports any maintenance concerns.
• Plans and implement program activities, which encourage parent involvement and child development.
• Responsible for securing the health, safety, hygiene and overall well-being of children at all times.
• Responsible for communicating lesson activities and student progress to parents.
• Maintains records and files of children and parent information.
• Responsible for developing and maintain Student Portfolios for children in the program.
• Attends staff meeting, in-service, and trainings.
• Perform any other tasks or duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Operations Manager or administrative personnel.

Responsibilities

• Design and follow a full schedule of activities and discover suitable teaching material.
• Balance teaching between logical and social exercises.
• Provide basic care and caregiving activities.
• Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc.) to enhance the child’s abilities.
• Evaluate children’s performance to make sure they are on the right learning track.
• Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children.
• Developing a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children.
• Employing a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children.
• Observing each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem.
