ROLE OVERVIEW
Administers nursing program in hospital to maintain standards of patient care, and advises medical staff, department heads, and other administrators in matters related to nursing service by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Exhibits behaviors that are consistent with the Mission, and Values of Melissa Memorial Hospital and the culture and objectives of MMH. All employees are expected to work as needed in providing health and wellness services to the community.
- Assures nursing practices are consistent with established standards of care and in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Provides leadership and direction for nursing personnel.
- Collaborates with Quality Director to establish and maintain a network-wide focus on quality, including metrics for quality measures and compliance.
- Evaluate and develop policies for optimizing productivity, efficiency, and compliance. Interprets policies and objectives to stakeholders. Ensures nursing personnel are trained in department policies & procedures.
- Responsible for creating and monitoring department budget, working closely with CEO to establish long-term strategic goals.
- Work closely with HIM manager to ensure proper reporting and documentation are maintained to optimize billing and reimbursement opportunities.
- Accountable for creating staffing plans in compliance with state regulations and alignment with MMH objectives.
- Fosters effective relationships with medical staff partners to achieve realistic and actionable objectives.
- Buildings and cultivates working relationships with community agencies, local nursing programs, and other departments, with a focus on education and process improvement.
- Establishes position qualification requirements, drafting procedure manuals, initiating in-service programs, and installing record and reporting systems.
- Initiates analyses to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services in relation to their objectives and costs.
- Responsible for MMH nursing personnel, which includes supervision of OR Manager.
- Assist on floor as needed.
In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon MMH needs or requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Experience:Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current license to practice in Colorado (or ability to obtain).ACLS, PALS, TNCC certified.Minimum of three years of senior level leadership, in nursing, at a critical access hospital.Knowledge of regulatory requirements (state, federal, Medicare, etc.)Demonstrated analytical, leadership and problem-solving skills.Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of internal and external customers.Ability to provide an environment which fosters learning and development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in nursing, business or health administration preferred; nursing experience must include clinical and management roles, demonstrating progressive leadership development and competency.
- Prior CNO experience, in a critical access hospital, preferred.

About Us:
Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 13-bed critical access hospital with level IV trauma services. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
MMH was recognized by Modern Healthcare as both a Top 100 Best Places to Work and the #1 Healthiest Place to Work in America in 2019.
Services are provided in a beautiful and relatively new facility that was completed in 2008, and then renovated and expanded in 2016.
MMH is a member of the nonprofit Eastern Plains Healthcare Consortium (EPHC), which was formed to help Colorado rural hospitals remain independent while achieving the economies of scale of a health system.
About Holyoke:
