Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent, the Chief Geologist manages, leads, and directs the Geology Team to ensure delivery of quality geological information, technical expertise, and proper management of the mineral resource for Pinto Valley.

• Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures
• Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine standard operating procedures
• Ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned
• Provide short and long-term strategies and planning to support business
• Assist, guide and develop the Geology team to ensure they meet goals and deadlines
• Ensure required reporting is accurate and timely
• Develop and implement appropriate systems, procedures, and policies
• Ensure regulatory/legal/policy compliance
• Provide oversight of blast hole sampling activities
• Geological modeling to support resource model updates
• Serve as the qualified person (QP) for Pinto Valley Mine’s Mineral Resource
• Manage infill and exploration drilling programs
• Manage QA/QC programs for all geological systems and deliverables (ore control, databases, etc.)
• Manage the geometallurgical strategy for Pinto Valley in partnership with the Metallurgy Department
• Work with the mill to establish relationship between rock types, mineralogy, grade and mill recovery and to develop new opportunities for metal recovery
• Manage wall mapping program
• Provide input into annual budgeting process and manage costs for geology group
• Manage monthly reconciliations among long term resource models, ore control models, and truck dispatch data in terms of tonne/grade
• Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required

Knowledge

• Understands drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence
• Detailed knowledge of theories and practices in geology related to open pit copper mining, milling, SXEW operations
• Detailed knowledge of geology modeling tools and technologies used in open pit mining
• Knowledge of software for ore control operations (i.e. Vulcan, Acquire)
• Experience with resource management and reporting under NI 45-101 and reporting for a public Canadian mining company

Key Competencies / Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related discipline
• Ability to be a qualified person (QP) for reporting of Pinto Valley’s mineral resource
• At least seven years of surface mining experience in a production environment – copper porphyry experience preferred
• Experience with mineral specific software packages (Vulcan, Leapfrog etc.)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook)
• Strong project management skills
• Valid Arizona Driver's License
• Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English

20% of the Chief Geologist’s time will be spent in the field while the remaining 80% will be spent in an office environment.
