GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs duties in the prevention of athletic injuries, evaluation on injuries and medical referral, first aid and emergency care, rehabilitation and reconditioning, organization and administration, counseling and guidance, and education; and other duties as assigned. In collaboration with Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS), this position will support BCPS for an average of 20-25 hours per week throughout the 2023-2024 academic school year. Coverage will vary depending on the season, but will typically begin around 2PM and end once practices and contests are over. The remaining hours (FTE=40 hours/week) will provide clinical support for the University of Maryland Department of Orthopaedics FPI clinical sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Demonstrates an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of certification.

2. Demonstrates proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.

3. Carries out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician.

4. Provide ATC services to a BCPS target school/program, 20-25 hours/week, typically from 2PM until practice/games end

5. Provide clinic support to UMOA physicians within outpatient practice sites, 15-20 hours/week

6. Occasional weekend game/event coverage; occasional travel with BCPS school/program for away games/training

7. Covers assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the physician.

8. Demonstrates knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the athletes’ status and interpret the appropriate information.

9. May require traveling to other Orthopaedic sites as needed

10. Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes and other training and requirements in required time frame to ensure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in health related field, with current NATA certification.
  • One or two years in athletic training setting preferred.
  • Maintains NATA and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions.
